LIGHT, WHISPERS and DREAMS, an exhibition featuring six contemporary Asian artists. Exhibition dates are May 3-May 31, 2014. Free and open to the public.
The Light, Whispers and Dreams exhibition features a collection of mixed media artwork created by visual artists from Northeast Asia who are currently living and producing artwork in the DFW area. The exhibition uses drawings, paintings, textile art, and other media to explore narratives, concepts, and techniques that are tightly connected to the experiences, culture, and sensibility of each of the artists. Through the use of a variety of styles and media, the six participating female artists from Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan express their thoughts and views on spirituality, communication issues, family history, and the world of dreams and ideas.
The show includes artwork by Sunny Jacquet, Jenny Hong DeLaughter, Susan Kim, Hsiu Ching Yu, Jianping Guo, and Yasuko Hashiura Robinson.
Enrique Fernández Cervantes curated this exhibition. Support for this exhibition comes from the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, Texas Commission on the Arts, and the University of Texas at Dallas’ Asia Center, an organization whose mission is to enhance communication, understanding and productive engagement with the nations and peoples of Asia by facilitating and coordinating a wide range of educational programs, advanced research projects, and community outreach activities. Additional support for this show also comes from the Friends of the Bath House Cultural Center, which supports visual and performing art programs at the center, and Ben E. Keith Company.
